WIDE-EYED re(garding) CHINA is intended as an ongoing hunt-and-gather, reflect-and-exchange platform for ideas, thoughts, questions, observations and "found-footage" regarding visual culture in China.

The content will touch on topics relating to visual culture, visual anthropology and visual rhetoric in the Chinese context, as it is perceived both inside and outside of China.

The open, intuitive, and associative approach of WIDE-EYED re CHINA is less rooted in the exact academic field and more embedded in the blurry domain of visual research.

Textual and visual notation, editing and categorization will be some of the tools used to communicate the emerging theories and ideas.

What WIDE-EYED re CHINA hopes to offer its audience is insight into distinctions and similarities in ways of perception, the reading of images and using visual representation in Chinese and European culture.

Ideally this insight will provide designers, artists, theorists and other readers interested in visiting China with an awareness that will enrich and intensify their experience and facilitate their immersion into a very different visual culture.

For a Chinese audience, this project can reveal how their world is perceived by others, thereby creating an opening for exchange, and offering new points of reflection regarding their own visual culture.
